Varenka Ruiz

My Piece

Taking inspiration from the magical experience of playing during the night during her childhood and inventing parallel worlds that could go beyond the restrictions of adult reason, Varenka uses the idea of perception as the initial catalyst of her work.

She experiences reality as infinite geometrical pieces that translate into childish attempts to reflect nature. The spacial configuration and creation of Varenka’s work obey an invisible but precise plan. Inspired by infinite geometry , transitional architecture and nature, Varenka believes in the anti-static constitution of the space, and in the unstable nature of perception.

Varenka creates sculptures, drawings, digital media and outdoors and indoors murals mostly in New York and Mexico.

About ACME Brooklyn

ACME Brooklyn is an art project that aims to display the artistic production of a specific context. On this occasion, a group of artists from the emerging and established art scenes of Mexico and New York are invited to produce and generate a piece for different exhibition spaces: a warehouse, an old textile factory (now turned hotel), and a movie theater. Within this communal ground, the dialogue and cultural exchange between the participating artists becomes the subject of the project. ACME Brooklyn is a project created by BASEProyectos, Archipielago, Mezcal UNION and La Fabrica Gallery. In collaboration with Wythe Hotel, La Superior,Cerveceria Havemeyer, Kinfolk Studios and Rich Lane.
